Charges filed in fatal Boularderie Island hit and run

SYDNEY, N.S. — A 27-year-old Victoria County man has been charged in connection with a hit and run that claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl.

Talia Neveah Forrest of North Sydney was killed July 11 as she rode her bicycle along Black Rock Road on Boularderie Island.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene but RCMP soon located the vehicle and have now charged a man with several motor vehicle offences.

The name of accused and the nature of the charges have not yet been released. The accused is to appear in provincial court in Wagmatcook on Sept. 5. The accused has been released on conditions.

The RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.

A funeral service for Forrest is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Carman United Church on Clyde Avenue in Sydney Mines.
