Boxes of Compliments brand chicken strips are being recalled for possible salmonella contamination.

A Public Health Agency of Canada investigation of an outbreak of human illness identified the chicken strips as a source of illness, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said in a news release.

Products with an expiry date of Nov. 24, 2019, inner package code 3288M and universal product code 057742336870 are to be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

“Many frozen breaded chicken products currently on the market are raw and therefore may contain Salmonella,” the CFIA said in the release.

“These products may appear to be pre-cooked, but they should be handled and prepared with caution.”

The potentially contaminated products were sold nationally until May 1.

Common short-term symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

If you may have become sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

The investigation into the human illness outbreak is ongoing.
