BRIDGETOWN, NS - Speeders, texting and driving, counterfeit bills, and a wild duck chase were the calls of the week for Annapolis District RCMP from Sept. 10 to 16.
Sept. 10, 2018
-- Several complaints of counterfeit money being passed around in Middleton were reported. A female was attempting to pass fake $100 bills at different businesses. Storeowners advised the RCMP who were able to apprehend the female who has been charged and will be appearing in court in November. RCMP would like to remind storeowners to take notice of large bills and verify if they are real.
-- A new, red MIG Welder valued at $1,200 was stolen from a garage in Carleton Corner. The RCMP is requesting any info on the stolen welder be reported to Annapolis District RCMP.
Sept. 11, 2018
-- A single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 near Lequille. The vehicle hydroplaned, hit the guard rail, and landed in the ditch on the opposite side. The driver was ok but the vehicle had moderate damage and was towed.
-- A truck was reported to be in the ditch near Bridgetown. The driver arranged to have the truck pulled out. RCMP made a patrol and while the driver saved a tow fee, he ended up with a ticket for no registration.
-- Police received a call about a possibly impaired driver in Paradise. The caller reported the vehicle was all over the road. The RCMP officer was able to locate and stop the vehicle. The driver stated he was trying to deal with teo dogs that were jumping around and not behind their containment barrier in the vehicle. The RCMP officer couldn’t help but to respond, “Well, who let the dogs out?” Woof…woof!”
Sept. 12, 2018
-- RCMP are investigating a hit-and-run in Middleton. A vehicle was parked on Commercial Street by the RBC when another vehicle backed into it. The grill was missing and later located. RCMP are requesting any information on this hit-and-run be reported to the Annapolis District RCMP.
-- Several speeding tickets issued on this date. Several drivers were ticketed for speeding including one near Clarence where the driver was ticketed both for speeding and not having a valid driver’s licence.
-- RCMP are reminding the public that when passing an emergency vehicle (Police, EHS, fire, tow truck), Section 106 of the Motor Vehicle Act States the following;
“No person shall drive a vehicle on a highway past an emergency vehicle that is stopped on the roadway or a shoulder adjacent to it and exhibiting a flashing light, at a speed in excess of (a) the speed limit but for this Section; or (b) sixty kilometres per hour, whichever is less.”
For example travelling between 1 and 15 km/hour over the limit when driving past an emergency vehicle is a fine of $352.50. An expensive day for a fast driver failing to move aside and/or pull over for an emergency vehicle!
Sept. 13, 2018
Property damage was reported on Park Street in Bridgetown. The caller’s back window of his SUV was smashed out. RCMP are requesting any info on this damage be reported to Annapolis District RCMP.
-- $237.50 fines were issued to a driver on this date, as well drivers on September 14 and 15, for using a cell phone while driving. Using a hand-held communication device (Example: cellular telephone call or text messaging) while operating a motor vehicle is an offence under the Motor Vehicle Act in Nova Scotia.
Sept. 15, 2018
-- Two vehicle collision in Cornwallis Park caused the RCMP to quickly respond. One vehicle was turning left and the oncoming vehicle, coming over the crest of the hill, collided with it. Luckily, no one was hurt but both vehicles damaged.
-- Another hit-and-run in Middleton was reported. Bystanders saw a vehicle hit a GMC Sierra when driving down Commercial Street. The driver got out and viewed the damage, then left. The RCMP officer located the suspect driver and he was issued tickets for using a cell phone while driving along with failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
-- Police were conducting a checkstop in the Wilmot area when a male driver approached exhibiting signs of intoxication. He was arrested for impaired driving and is facing Criminal Code driving charges.
-- A report came in of lots of ducks being pursued by a hovercraft in Tupperville! The RCMP officers responded and ‘quacked’ the case. Our good folks with the Canadian Wildlife Services were doing patrols. No duck was harmed in this exercise.
Sept. 16, 2018
-- A break-and-enter into the Vet Clinic in Bridgetown was reported. The investigation is ongoing but police are requesting anyone who may have any information on this crime to contact Annapolis District RCMP.
