Conditional sentence terminated
Kyle Keith Patrick Hefford-Power, 27, of Greenwood, has had his conditional sentence terminated and will spend the remaining time in custody.
Hefford-Power was handed a 12-month conditional sentence order on Dec. 20, 2017, after changing his pleas to guilty to charges of possessing less than three kilograms of cannabis marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a firearm while prohibited and storing firearms, two 12-gauge shotguns, in a careless manner.
The conditional sentence included four months of house arrest, followed by daily curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for four months and daily curfew from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining time. The court imposed an 11-year firearms prohibition against Hefford-Power and granted a forfeiture order for items seized. A charge of possessing two 12-gauge shotguns without holding the necessary licence was dismissed.
Hefford-Power was present in Kentville provincial court on Oct. 18 on an allegation that he breached conditions of his conditional sentence order in Greenwood on Oct. 17. The breach as alleged was admitted and Judge Christopher Manning terminated Hefford-Power’s conditional sentence. He will serve the remaining 64 days in custody.
Hefford-Power breached conditions that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He was not to possess, take or consume drugs except in accordance with a medical prescription and was not to own, possess or carry a weapon, ammunition or any explosive substance.
A probation officer was called at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 17 and was advised by a constable with the Kings County Street Crime Enforcement Unit that they had Hefford-Power in custody for allegedly breaching his conditional sentence.
A search warrant had been executed at Hefford-Power’s Greenwood residence, resulting in charges of unlawfully possessing cannabis marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a prohibited weapon, a throwing star, a.k.a. a “shuriken”, without holding a licence under which he may possess it and possessing a cross-bow while he was prohibited from doing so.
Hefford-Power is scheduled to appear again in court on Dec. 18 for election and plea on the three charges alleged to have occurred in Greenwood on Oct. 17.
Fined for possession
Kolby Luke Jordan, 23, of Kentville, has been fined for unlawfully possessing cannabis marijuana.
Jordan was originally charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. He maintained his not guilty plea to the original charge but pleaded guilty to the lesser, included offence of possession on Oct. 16. Judge Christopher Manning fined Jordan a total of $390.
Jordan committed the offence in Kentville on Sept. 21, 2017. A charge of unlawfully possessing amitriptyline was withdrawn on Nov. 7, 2017.
