BRIDGETOWN, N.S. - Motor vehicle collisions, cannabis transportation, thefts, and assault with crab apples were just a few of the calls the Annapolis District RCMP responded to during the week of Oct. 15 to 22.
Oct. 16, 2018
-- It’s bad enough woken at 1 a.m. by a loud crash. Worse still to find out that crash was because someone drove across your yard, into your driveway, and collided with your parked vehicle. While the Margaretsville resident could see the tire marks in the yard, the suspect vehicle had left after hitting her vehicle. RCMP made a patrol and found a fender with the Honda logo. The investigation is ongoing and RCMP are requesting anyone with any information on this hit-and-run to please report it to the RCMP.
-- RCMP also responded to another motor-vehicle collision on this date – this time the culprit being a tree limb which fell on her vehicle and damaged the top of the car.
Oct. 17, 2018
-- Another motor-vehicle collision kept the RCMP occupied the next day in Granville Ferry. A collision occurred between a school bus and a van. The school bus driver was deemed not at fault and everyone involved escaped injury.
-- Early in the morning, the RCMP received a call of a break-and-enter in Bridgetown. Young males, approximately age 13 to 15, were seen exiting a home with a hammer. The home is unoccupied and under renovations. Both boys fled towards the school and although patrols were made, the youth were not located. Regardless, if anything was taken or damage done, the RCMP are reminding the public that entering private property is trespassing and subject to a fine of up to $500.
Oct. 18, 2018
-- A complainant reported theft of more than $20,000 from a bank account since May. The victim was friended on Facebook by someone claiming to be a country music star. Initially the victim was persuaded to send money, after which the culprit sent her a cheque which she deposited. These funds were then immediately withdrawn by the suspect. While this investigation is active, the RCMP remind the public that if anyone requests money, be it through Kijiji, Facebook, etc., not to send any money or provide any personal information.
-- Theft of money and damage to property was reported in Paradise. The caller reported the suspect used a bolt cutter to cut the lock off the greenhouse honour box. A suspect was captured on video and the investigation is ongoing. Police are requesting any information on this crime be reported to the Annapolis District RCMP.
-- In Port Wade, a caller reported that a male came on to the property in a four-wheeler, damaged the mail box, and did donuts on his lawn.
Oct. 19, 2018
-- On this date our partners with the Department of Natural Resources were patrolling for illegal hunting in the Princedale area when they stopped a vehicle on a service road to a cabin. The vehicle had a large amount of freshly harvested cannabis on board so they contacted the RCMP. Members made a patrol and followed the road a bit and found a beautiful secret garden….50 marihuana plants. The driver of the vehicle was issued a ticket for illegal transportation of cannabis and the plants were seized. Under the Cannabis Control Act, illegal transportation of cannabis in a vehicle is $295.
-- An attempted break-and-enter was reported in Bridgetown. A caller reported the apartment door was damaged and the shovel from the shed nearby. No entry was gained and nothing was taken. Police are requesting any suspicious activity be reported to the Annapolis District RCMP.
-- In Bridgetown a group of youths were reported throwing rocks and crab apples at a house. RCMP made a patrol and found the youth. They were kids in town for a hockey tournament. No damage was done to the house. The coach and parents were notified and assured the RCMP the apple-throwing posse will all be spending some quality time in the proverbial penalty box.
Oct. 20, 2018
-- In Victoriavale, Canada Post mail boxes were damaged. Nothing was taken from the boxes. The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP are urging the public if they have any information report it the Annapolis District RCMP.
-- RCMP responded to Princedale for a dirt bike accident. The driver of the dirt bike ran into a wood pile and suffered injuries to his face. EHS transported the driver to hospital for treatment.
Oct. 21, 2018
-- A single-vehicle accident in Clemenstport was reported. The driver of a vehicle went into a ditch and hit a number of trees. The driver was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was written off so the driver was very lucky.
-- A caller from Wilmot reported a female in rubber boots came to the door and asked to use the phone. She then left with two males. The suspects were located and advised police they were simply looking for a drive to Kingston - shockingly enough these days, not one of them had a cellphone.
