BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — Members of the Annapolis District RCMP dealt with cars in ditches, on lawns, a vandalized house, a vehicle missing its car seats, and vehicles colliding. There was a break-in by a short person, a potential party, and a beer-drinking patron who trashed a vehicle.
The week of May 6 saw police busy with a lot of calls, a few of them kind of odd. Here are some Highlights.
May 6, 2019
CARLETON CORNER – There’s scarcely a week we don’t come across someone driving without a license. This driver received a court date for driving while license revoked along with a hefty fine of $1272.50 for driving without a motor vehicle liability policy.
CORNWALLIS – A reminder it is spring clean-up time. That said, we shouldn’t have to remind some that this doesn’t mean you can ditch your stuff in the ditch and have a bon fire. We and Environment Canada are dealing with one such gentleman who didn’t get the memo.
MOUNT HANLEY – Not something you find everyday on your property… a bus and a car! The caller reported that both vehicles appeared to be abandoned on her property. The officer advised her that she can have them towed.

ROUND HILL – Nice to wake up to this at 3 a.m. -- a grey car on your front lawn! Seems to be the week for cars landing on lawns! The caller could see someone running from the car and yelling that they did not want ambulance or police. We’re not surprised! The investigation remains open as to why the driver decided to park the car on a lawn instead of his driveway.
MIDDLETON – A caller reported an elderly woman on the side of the highway in need of help. The officer made a patrol and found her sitting in the driver’s seat, drifting in and out of consciousness. EHS transported her to hospital where she was treated and will be okay. Our thanks to a conscientious passerby.
CORNWALLIS – There were reports of two young females on an ATV driving without helmets. We had a chat with dad who wasn’t aware. I dare say when daughter arrives home to meet dad at the door, she might re-think that next time round.
TORBROOK MINES – A caller reported a home completely vandalized and windows stolen. An investigation located four teens who admitted to doing the spray painting but not the theft of approximately $10,000 worth of windows. The investigation remains open and we are requesting any info that may assist us.

MIDDLETON – RCMP received a complaint of theft of two children’s car seats. The caller stated she had placed two car seats at the front of her car, went out the next morning and they were gone. The prior evening it was county clean up so if there is some vague chance someone took them thinking they were freebies, please return them or drop them off to us and we’ll be glad to do so.
GREYWOOD – RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision between a truck and motorcycle. One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. This driver will also receive a get well card from us accompanied by tickets for driving with no license, no insurance, and no registration!
SPRINGFIELD – There was a report of a truck in a ditch. Once on scene we determined the driver was impaired. He was arrested and later released with some paperwork for a future court appearance.

MIDDLETON – Theft from Pharmasave was captured on camera for digital eternity (or until the next software upgrade). A male was seen taking a hair curling iron valued at $109. He has been identified and charges are pending – perhaps he has time to curl his locks beforehand, perhaps not.

PORT GEORGE – RCMP received information that a large party would be taking place at Cape and Sand Beach. Some concerned folks made us aware that there might be up to 175 youth in attendance. We made patrols and it was all quiet on the beachfront.
DEEP BROOK – RCMP made a patrol to a residential break-in. It did not appear anything was taken but whoever did it, needed to climb up on a milk crate to get in -- that’s about the “short” of it.
MIDDLETON – Capitol Pub - a patron took it upon himself to help himself to some draft beer and was told in no uncertain terms this wasn’t a self service bar! He was asked to leave and did so begrudgingly. Shortly thereafter, damage was done to the staff member’s truck parked outside. A mischief investigation remains open.

NICTAUX – Reports were received of a young male driving through the fields without a helmet on. The youth was located and he was counselled on safe driving habits.

Police Week: Unfortunately, our National Police Week outdoor event in Middleton on May 14 was cancelled due to rather a lot of rain.
However, the Thursday, May 16 was held and students at BRCS got to see our tools of the trade along with other emergency response partners.
With the warmer weather approaching, we want to remind cyclists to always wear a helmet when biking… it’s the law and, more importantly, in the event of an accident, it will reduce the risk of brain injury, the leading type of fatal or disabling injury to cyclists.
