BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — A sad week in the valley with the tragic loss of Brogan Gunn. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and fire fighting comrades. Brogan, an Annapolis Royal firefighter, died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.

NICTAUX – Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind an empty home. The caller stated there was a black Honda Civic parked behind a home behind the fire hall. The officer made a patrol and it was actually the new homeowner doing reno’s. He was happy to have such watchful new neighbours.
MIDDLETON – Police received reports of upstairs neighbour being loud and banging around. A patrol was made and the officer spoke to the noise maker and he agreed to take it down a few decibels.
UPPER GRANVILLE – A caller reported finding a silver flare at Hampton Beach. He brought it back to his home and left it in his flower pot and notified the RCMP. Doubtful this aided plant growth. The military assisted to properly dispose of the flare. Just to be on the safe side, please don’t transport these things – leave as is, give us or the military a call, and we’ll deal with it.

MIDDLETON – A caller reported her bedroom window was open. She felt that someone may have tried to break in. Nothing was missing and there was no damage to the home. The officer did make extra patrols in the area during the evening to ensure her safety.

DEEP BROOK – At 11 p.m. RCMP made a patrol in response to two horses walking down the road. The officer thought the caller may be having a “nightmare” as it was late for horses to be wandering the streets. Patrols were made but the horses must have made their way home.
MIDDLETON – An air compressor was stolen from outside the Irving. RCMP are investigating and would welcome any info about this theft.
WILMOT – A hit-and-run was reported. The complainant reported someone hit her vehicle when she was at work causing more than $2,000 damage. The file remains open.
MIDDLETON – Ongoing parking and driving issues were reported at Annapolis East Elementary. The RCMP would like to remind parents to park in designated spots. On a side note, a ‘Stop’ sign does not imply “NO COP…NO STOP”. Please ensure a complete stop as there are lots of ‘youngins’ and parents around during school hours and doing so adds that extra measure of caution.
BELLEISLE – RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision that resulted in fatality of a volunteer fire fighter from the community. Brogan Gunn lost his life when his motor bike left the road. A huge loss for us all.
MELVIN SQUARE – Rarely a good day when you require an ambulance. Doesn’t get better when said ambulance transporting you meets a deer. Fortunately, no injuries to the EHS medics or the patient but the deer didn’t fare so well. To top things off, the ambulance had to be towed.

NICTAUX – There is an ongoing issue of burn outs in the area. Several marks left on the road. Recently seen making some marks was a turquoise coloured Chev truck. The RCMP would like to remind our local stunt drivers that they can face a fine of $2422 under Sec 163(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

MIDDLETON – Not what you want to see when you come out of the hospital… damage to your vehicle. Luckily for this vehicle owner, there was a witness who saw a blue Ford Ranger back into her Elantra and leave. With the amount of damage done to her vehicle, the driver should have known. The plate was obtained and the RCMP are in the process of tracking down the owner and interested in hearing why he couldn’t remain at the scene of an accident.
WILMOT – It’s a bird, it’s a plane…nope… how about a flying mattress! A caller stated a mattress flew off the truck in front of her and hit her car. The officer was hopeful it might be “memory foam” with imbedded clues about the truck owner… No need as driver details were obtained and the truck owner is fully cooperating about damages.
DEEP BROOK – Traffic hazard reported. Caller stated a Border Collie was running across the road. Oh, why would a dog be crossing the road, the responding officer asked herself. Perhaps he was trying to get to the “barking lot!” Patrols made but dog had made it home safely.

DELAPS COVE – A resident received a card in the mail asking to fill in personal information in order to receive a free treatment for arthritis. She received a call from the “arthritis doctor” saying he would be by the next day to fix her up! After thinking about this, she realized this may not be the best idea and notified the police and our Senior Safety Coordinator. He did show up at her home and we had a frank discussion with this individual about his business practices.
MIDDLETON – Police received a report of theft of frozen food from Foodland. I guess this guy was on a “seafood” diet as he saw food and took it! This thief was not that “soFISHticated” though, as his actions were caught on camera.
CLEMENTSPORT – 911 misuse. The caller was upset as the only people that would answer the phone when he made calls were 911 operators! He stated he was sure he had still had minutes left. The officer educated him about the misuse of 911 and suggested he consult his cell provider to determine why no one particularly wants to speak with him.

LEQUILLE – A fire destroyed a home. Fire marshal was notified and attended. Investigation remains open as to cause of fire.
CLEMENTSPORT – RCMP assisted Digby Fire on this call. No fire. An alarm went off because two rather intoxicated brothers were attempting to cook – and well, that combination just didn’t work out. One of them ended up arrested, not for his cooking, but for causing a disturbance. Sometimes, you just gotta let it go…
MOUNTIE MEMO: If the rain ever stops... Bicycling can be a lot of fun and a good way to get some exercise, but it’s important to always keep safety in mind when you’re out on your bike this season. Don’t forget to always wear a properly fitted helmet, wear reflective clothing, use proper hand signals, and obey all traffic laws. It could save your life. Be predictable, be alert, and ride safe!
