KENTVILLE, N.S. — Off-road vehicles are not exempt from the rules of the road.

More than 60 ATVs were stopped by police or the RCMP’s provincial enforcement partners throughout Thanksgiving weekend, Kings District RCMP say.

Patrols were made in Berwick, Waterville, Kingston, Auburn, Aylesford, Lake Paul, Coldbrook and Greenwood, with priority given to areas of the Harvest Moon Trail, AKA the old railway tracks, spanning from Wilmot to Cambridge.

Tickets and warnings were issued for a number of offences outlined in the Nova Scotia Off-Highway Vehicle Act and the Criminal Code of Canada.

“While in Berwick, RCMP and enforcement officers charged one male with impaired driving while operating a side-by-side. The same day, two youth were charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a peace officer, while on motorcycle and ATV,” reads an Oct. 16 Kings District RCMP media release.

“Kings District RCMP encourage ATV enthusiasts to operate in a safe, legal manner, which provides for everyone's enjoyment while using the trail systems in Kings County.”

Acts of dangerous operation of an ATV can be reported to local RCMP detachments, or by calling 800-803-RCMP (7267). To report an emergency, call 911.
