BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — Break-and-enters, loose needles, ‘old women,’ and ‘cow calls’ kept Annapolis District RCMP busy during the week of March 23 to 30.
March 23
MIDDLETON – Police received reports of a male lying in the street surrounded by beer bottles. I guess there are worse things you could be surrounded by! The caller stated someone helped the man up and last saw him stumbling down the street. Patrols were made and it appears he found a more suitable place to lie down.
March 25
LAWRENCETOWN – Driving a motor vehicle without insurance is a costly risk as one lady found out after she was stopped and was issued a fine for $1272.50. Not sure we actually need to remind the public that valid vehicle insurance is law for a number of reasons…
VIRGINIA EAST – A possible break-and-enter to a cottage was reported. An RCMP officer went to the scene, and while damage to the door was noted, it appears nothing was taken.
March 26
SPRINGFIELD – A caller reported that she heard someone in her garage. Shortly afterwards, she discovered two power saws missing. The responding officer believes the suspect gained access through the unlocked door and was quickly able to flee via ATV trails. The investigation is on-going.
BRIDGETOWN – A suspicious male was reported in the area. It was possibly a homeless person living near the tracks. The RCMP have received a few calls about this individual and have spoken to him a number of times and followed up with callers to advise them on outcomes.
March 28
MIDDLETON – A dispute in Stephen McNeil’s parking lot was reported and it had nothing to do with politics! A caller reported lots of hollering. A patrol was made and the dispute was still ongoing with one party accusing the other of hitting their car. The matter was dealt with at the time and the officer advised this was not the place to have a shouting match – perhaps best to leave that to the good folks in our Province House…
NICTAUX – A caller reported she thought that someone was in her house and she was home alone with two kids. She thought she heard the back door opening. Officers quickly made a patrol and the cause of the noise was actually a broken storm door.
MIDDLETON – Police received a call that two older women tried three different doors to the school to enter the building. The caller stated they saw the same thing happen a couple of nights ago. The suspects were described as white females, dark hair, skinny, one wearing a white coat and the other dark. When the officer asked the caller what they meant by ‘older,’ they said in their 40s -- oh my -- I guess I am in the ‘older’ bracket now. The RCMP is requesting the public with any information on these ‘old’ women, to please contact the Annapolis District RCMP.
March 29
BRIDGETOWN – Police received reports of two vehicles parked on Church Street in a ‘NO PARKING’ zone by the church. The officer made a patrol and spoke with members of the church. The vehicle owners happily moved their vehicles. The RCMP ask that the public be ever cognizant of street parking where traffic congestion can cause issues – we certainly don’t wish to interrupt events if we can help it.
MIDDLETON – Two reports were received about an ATV travelling at high speed and passing vehicles. The RCMP did locate the ATV and attempted to stop it but the ATV fled on seeing the RCMP car. One witness was able to obtain a partial plate JS4*0. RCMP are requesting any info as to operates this ATV, to contact the Annapolis District RCMP.
BRIDGETOWN – RCMP received a call of an unknown, extremely intoxicated male attempting to enter the caller’s residence. Officers made a patrol and located the male who was quickly arrested for intoxication in a public place. We found him a room for the night…
March 30
LAWRENCETOWN – A syringe and spoon were found in the parking lot of the Annapolis Valley Regional Library. The RCMP seized the items and disposed of them safely.
WEST PARADISE – Coincidentally enough, several more needles were found. RCMP again made a patrol, seized items, and disposed of them safely.
CLEMENTSPORT – Police received a complaint of harassment. The caller reported that another tenant in the building has been harassing her. Every time he sees her, he ‘moos.’ The RCMP tried to locate the ‘Cow caller’ but he was not there upon arrival. Apparently the cow caller is being evicted soon and will be “moooooving on” shortly.
