STEAM MILL – Several fire department units were called to fire that quickly totalled a garage on Lakewood Road in Steam Mill.
The Kentville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, which came in shortly before 7 p.m., with mutual aid and tanker trucks from Waterville and New Minas fire departments.
Kentville deputy chief Scott Hamilton said the garage measured roughly 10 by 20 feet, and around ten feet from the main house, which is currently under construction.
"The first unit crews covered the back side of the house so the fire didn't spread to the main area. The second line looked after extinguishing the fire," he said.
Hamilton also confirmed the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire.
Heavy smoke was visible from a distance as the fire burned, and radio chatter suggested the blaze was called in by a neighbour or passing vehicle.
The fire was extinguished almost immediately, and no one was injured during the incident.
Crews remained at the scene for around one hour to ensure hot spots were put out.
The garage is confirmed as a total loss, and there will be no further investigation into the fire's cause.
