BERWICK – RCMP say all six pigs that escaped from a trailer on Highway 101 near Berwick have now been located.
RCMP spokesperson Cst. Jeff Wilson said police responded to a call indicating six pigs were running loose on the highway at 9 a.m. Oct. 18 near exit 15. The pigs had escaped from a trailer that was being driven on the highway.
Owners and police were able to corral five pigs, but one last remaining pig ran off the highway toward North Berwick.
“The pig appeared to run off toward Parker Condon and Shaw roads,” said Wilson, who said people were assigned to patrol both sides of the highway.
The remaining pig was later found around 11:30 a.m. on Parker Condon Road. RCMP were assisted by the pig owners, workers and volunteers in their search for the last missing pig.
RCMP confirmed there was a motor vehicle collision near Berwick on the highway around 10 a.m. Oct. 18 that could be related to this incident.
Wilson said he could not yet confirm how the pigs escaped from the trailer, but did confirm the incident remains under investigation.
“Thanks to the public who took interest and helped to expedite this situation,” said Wilson in a release.
