KENTVILLE, N.S. — If anyone was wondering where all the heat of the summer was – here it is. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a heat warning for Kings County. As of 4:30 a.m. July 4, the organization warned that humidex values reaching 36 degrees, Celsius are expected for communities in Kings County for the next two days.
Very warm air is expected to move into western Nova Scotia, persisting into Saturday. Environment and Climate Change Canada have predicted daytime temperatures near 29 degrees, Celsius today and near 32 degrees, Celsius on Friday.
Humidex values are expected to reach 36 on Friday, and minimum temperatures overnight and on Friday night will range from 16 to 18 degrees – providing little relief from the heat of days.
On Saturday, both temperature and humidity values are expected to drop, with the approach of a cold front. Coastal communities will see cooler temperatures on account of onshore breezes.
Environment and Climate Change Canada recommend reducing your heat risk during heat warnings by scheduling outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Outdoor workers are cautioned take regular breaks in a cool place. Environment and Climate Change Canada also cautioned residents never to leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
