This is the latest court report for Kings and West Hants counties.

Possessed cocaine, recognizance offence

Wayne Medicraft, 52, of South Alton, has been sentenced to jail time for failing to comply with his recognizance and has been fined for unlawfully possessing cocaine.

Medicraft was present in Kentville provincial court in custody on Aug. 20. He pleaded guilty to the two charges. Judge Christopher Manning sentenced Medicraft to 15 days in custody for failing to comply with his recognizance and fined him $300 for unlawfully possessing cocaine.

Medicraft committed the offences in Kentville on Aug. 15. Another count of unlawfully possessing cocaine was withdrawn on Aug. 20.

Conditional sentence suspended

Leonard Wade Greenough, 26, of Windsor, will serve time in custody after his conditional sentence was suspended.

Greenough was handed a conditional sentence order on Nov. 27, 2018, after pleading guilty in October 2018 to charges of possessing a firearm, a Mossberg bolt action rifle, without a licence and two counts of possessing stolen property of a value not exceeding $5,000.

The 12-month conditional sentence included house arrest for the first 140 days, followed by daily curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining time.

The conditional sentence will be followed by two years of probation. Greenough was also fined a total of $600 in victim surcharges and the court imposed a six-year firearm prohibition against Greenough in relation to the firearm offence.

Police took Greenough into custody on Aug. 19 and charged him with unlawfully possessing cocaine. It’s alleged that Greenough committed the offence in Falmouth. The charge has not been proven in court.

Greenough was present in provincial court on an allegation that he breached his conditional sentence on Aug. 19. He admitted to breaching three conditions. Greenough failed to keep the peace and to be of good behaviour. He was not to possess, take or consume drugs – excluding marijuana – except in accordance with a medical prescription and he was to abide by daily curfew.

Judge Christopher Manning suspended Greenough’s conditional sentence for 10 days, which Greenough will spend in custody. The conditional sentence will resume after the time is served.

Suspended sentence for stealing

Mark Anthony Higdon, 39, of Kentville, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for stealing property from the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation of a value not exceeding $5,000.

Higdon changed his plea to guilty on Aug. 19. Judge Christopher Manning handed Higdon a suspended sentence with six months of reporting probation, including 10 hours of community service work.

Higdon committed the offence in Kentville on Jan. 28.
