Custody for various offences
Brandon Matthew Crewe, 36, of Windsor, has been sentenced to jail time for a variety of offences, including assaulting a Windsor RCMP officer; failing to attend court in accordance with a Promise to Appear in which he had been named, assault, unlawful confinement, uttering a threat by telephone to rape and cause bodily harm to the nursing staff at the Hants Community Hospital, failing to comply with probation and four counts of failing to comply with his recognizance.
Crewe changed his pleas to guilty to the assault and unlawful confinement charges and to one count of failing to comply with his recognizance on Dec. 11, 2018. He pleaded guilty to the other seven charges on Jan. 7. The matters were adjourned to Feb. 5 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be updated and for sentencing.
Given credit for time spent remanded in custody on the assault charge, 68 days at time and a half or 102 days, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Crewe to a total of 228 additional days in custody on the 10 charges, to be followed by 12 months of probation.
The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against Crewe in relation to the assault, unlawful confinement and uttering threat charges and granted DNA orders in relation to these counts. Crewe’s warrant of committal includes a no contact order with the assault and unlawful confinement victim.
Crewe committed the offences in Windsor on March 20, May 1, between Nov. 4 and 29 and on Nov. 14, 2018; in Chipmans Corner between July 1 and 29, 2018, and in Hantsport on Aug. 29, 2018.
Charges of assaulting a police officer with intent to resist lawful arrest, two more counts of assault, another count of failing to comply with probation and another count of failing to comply with his recognizance were withdrawn or dismissed on Feb. 5.
Intermittent custody
Christopher Alfred Mosher, 39, of Kingston, has been sentenced to intermittent custody for operating a motor vehicle while disqualified.
Mosher changed his plea to guilty in November and the matter was adjourned to Feb. 4 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Judge Christopher Manning sentenced Mosher to 30 days of intermittent custody, to be served from Fridays at 9 p.m. to Sundays at 9 a.m. beginning Feb. 8 and continuing every weekend thereafter until the sentence is served. Mosher was also sentenced to four months of probation and the court imposed a one-year driving prohibition against him.
Mosher committed the offence in Kingston on March 11, 2018.
Breathalyser offence
Peter Ross Sweet, 41, of New Russell, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Sweet pleaded guilty to the charge on Feb. 5. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Sweet a total of $1,200 and imposed a one-year driving prohibition against him.
Sweet committed the offence in Windsor Forks on Dec. 16, 2018. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Sweet gave breathalyser readings of 180 and 170.
A charge of impaired operation and a charge of failing to stop his vehicle as soon as was reasonable in the circumstances in order to evade police were withdrawn on Feb. 5.
Impaired driving
Amanda Lee Rose Harvey, 28, of Kentville, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while her ability to do so was impaired by alcohol or a drug.
Harvey was present in Kentville provincial court in custody on an executed warrant on Feb. 6. The warrant was vacated and Harvey changed her plea to guilty. Judge Christopher Manning fined Harvey a total of $1,000 and imposed a one-year driving prohibition against her.
Harvey committed the offence in Kentville on March 31, 2018.
Possession for purpose of trafficking
Spencer Carmen Waye, 20, of Wolfville, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for unlawfully possessing cannabis marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Waye changed his plea to guilty on Dec. 6, 2018, and the matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Judge Christopher Manning handed Waye a conditional discharge with 12 months of reporting probation, including 50 hours of community service work. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against Waye and granted a forfeiture order for offence-related property.
Waye committed the offence in Wolfville on Oct. 20, 2017.
Committed assault, mischief
Gregory Andrew Moore, 61, of Kentville, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault and committing mischief by damaging a vehicle to a value not exceeding $5,000.
Moore changed his pleas to guilty to the two charges in November and the matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
On Feb. 7, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Moore a conditional discharge with 12 months of reporting probation. The defence confirmed that a cheque for restitution has been delivered.
Moore committed the offences in Avonport on Aug. 25, 2018.
Probation for assault
Trevor Garnet Lunn, 49, of Brooklyn, has been sentenced to probation for committing an assault.
Lunn pleaded guilty to the charge on Dec. 11, 2018, and the matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
On Feb. 5, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Lunn to one year of probation.
Lunn committed the offence in Brooklyn on Nov. 7, 2018.
Undertaking offence
Cyril Todd Langille, 45, of Berwick, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for failing to comply with his undertaking.
Langille changed his plea to guilty to the charge on Feb. 6. Judge Christopher Manning handed Langille a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation.
Langille committed the offence in Berwick on Sept. 18, 2018.
