Conditional sentence with house arrest
Robert James Johnstone, 36, of Cambridge, will serve a period of imprisonment in the community for unlawfully being inside a house.
Johnstone was originally charged with breaking and entering a house with intent to commit an indictable offence therein. He pleaded not guilty to the original charge but pleaded guilty on July 25 to the lesser, included offence of unlawfully being inside a house. The matter was adjourned to Oct. 30 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Johnstone a six-month conditional sentence order with house arrest for the entire time, to be followed by 18 months of probation. The court also granted a DNA order.
Johnstone committed the offence in North Kentville on Sept. 6, 2017.
Time deemed served, probation
Alex Alexidze, a.k.a. Alexander Roy, 44, of Windsor, has been sentenced to time deemed served and probation for a variety of offences.
Alexidze was present in Windsor provincial court on Oct. 26 when he pleaded guilty to several charges, including committing an assault on two individuals; stealing property valued at less than $5,000 from Canadian Tire, willfully obstructing an RCMP officer engaged in the execution of his duty arresting Alexidze by providing a false name, unlawfully taking a 2018 Ford Explorer without the consent of the owner – Budget Car and Truck Rental – with intent to drive it, stealing tools valued at less than $5,000 from Kent Building Supplies and illegally possessing a Manitoba drivers licence.
Judge Christopher Manning sentenced Alexidze to one day in custody deemed served on each of the charges and sentenced him to a total of 12 months of probation.
Alexidze committed the offences in Lower Truro on June 18; in Halifax and Windsor on July 20 and in Windsor on Aug. 12. Several other charges were withdrawn on Oct. 26.
Suspended sentence for assault with coffee
Andrew Ryan Bowie, 34, of Windsor, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for using a weapon – a cup of coffee – in committing an assault.
Bowie pleaded guilty to the charge on Oct. 16 and the matter was adjourned to Oct. 30 for sentencing. Judge Christopher Manning handed Bowie a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation.
Bowie committed the offence in Windsor on April 4. Charges of uttering a death threat and uttering a threat to damage property – an automobile – were withdrawn on Oct. 30.
Stole lottery tickets
Shailagh Bernadine Dorrington, 38, of Hantsport, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for stealing lottery tickets from Ultramar and stealing lottery tickets from Circle K Irving.
Dorrington pleaded guilty to the charges on Oct. 30. Judge Christopher Manning handed Dorrington a suspended sentence with one year of probation.
Dorrington committed the offences in Windsor on June 27 and in Falmouth between June 29 and 30. Two more counts of stealing lottery tickets and a charge of possessing stolen lottery tickets were withdrawn on Oct. 30.
Recognizance offence
Matthew Junior Brian Baker, a.k.a. Mariah Junior Brian Baker, 25, of Cheverie, has been fined for breaching a recognizance.
Baker pleaded guilty to the charge on Oct. 30. Judge Christopher Manning fined Baker a total of $195.
Baker committed the offence in Cheverie on April 13.
Recognizance offence
Kevin Donald Tanner, 34, of Newcombville, has been fined for failing to comply with a recognizance.
Tanner changed his plea to guilty to the charge on Oct. 31. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Tanner a total of $65.
Tanner committed the offence in Kentville on May 31.
