Paul Eldon Lake, 55, formerly of Kentville, was present in Kentville provincial court in custody April 6. He pleaded not guilty in September 2014 to an original charge of assaulting a Department of Justice sheriff engaged in the execution of his duty. Judge Alan Tufts sentenced Lake to one day in custody deemed served. Lake committed the offence in Kentville June 20, 2014.
It was on that date that Lake stabbed three people in the town. He changed his pleas to guilty in January to one of three counts of attempted murder and to two of three counts of aggravated assault.
Judge Patrick Duncan sentenced Lake to 10 years in prison March 18, less 935 days credit for time spent remanded in custody. The court imposed a lifetime firearm prohibition against Lake, granted a forfeiture order for weapons and granted a DNA order. Lake was ordered to have no contact with the three victims.
The remaining charges against Lake, including two counts of carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, were dismissed March 18.
