KENTVILLE, NS - A New Minas man who pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking will serve a federal sentence.
Jonathan Ross Allen, 29, of New Minas, pleaded guilty in May to possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Allen was present in Kentville provincial court for his sentencing hearing on Nov. 5.
Judge Christopher Manning sentenced Allen to 27 months in custody. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against Allen, to follow his release from custody. A forfeiture order was granted for drug-related property seized and a baton.
The Valley Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit stopped Allen on Highway 1 in Greenwich on Nov. 6, 2017, with the assistance of the Windsor Street Crime Enforcement Unit and the Kings District RCMP.
The planned stop was part of an ongoing investigation and resulted in the seizure of 165 grams of cocaine that was found inside of Allen’s vehicle. The RCMP arrested Allen at the scene.
Allen also pleaded guilty in May to a charge of failing to comply with his recognizance in New Minas on Nov. 26, 2017, by failing to remain in his residence between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. He was sentenced to 30 days in custody, to be served concurrently.
A charge of failing to comply with his recognizance by associating with or being in the company of a person with a criminal record was withdrawn on Nov. 5.
