NEW MINAS, NS – The RCMP is asking for help from the public as an investigation into an armed robbery at a New Minas service station continues.
On Nov. 1 at 4:15 a.m., New Minas RCMP responded to a call about an armed robbery at the Irving Big Stop on Prospect Road. The suspect, described as a male, approximately 30 years old, was wearing a black hoodie with a face mask, black pants and gloves.
He was holding a handgun and told the clerk to open the safe. The clerk wasn’t able to get the safe open, so the man took all the cash from the register, stuffed it into his pockets and ran from the store headed east.
No one was injured and there were no other people in the store at the time. RCMP officers flooded the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The investigation is continuing with an RCMP police dog and handler checking the area for evidence and RCMP Forensic Identification Services examining the scene. Police will also be examining surveillance video.
