NEW MINAS, N.S. — Police service will not be interrupted as New Minas and other Kings District RCMP officers move into their new headquarters that will open to the public April 1.

Construction is complete and new furniture has been moved into the new building at 8833 Commercial Street, which will house both the RCMP Kings District office and New Minas detachment.

According to the RCMP release, contractors are completing final touches by testing the structure to ensure all parts are properly completed. Employees will move in over the next few days until the front desk officially opens.

"Excitement continues to build as the finishing touches are completed," said Insp. Dan Morrow, Officer in Charge of Kings District RCMP in a release.

The new building will house 73 full-time employees working within the Southwest Nova District Policing Office, New Minas Detachment members, Major Crimes Unit, Traffic Services, General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services.

The new centre was built to replace the existing New Minas detachment at 18 Jones Road in New Minas. The building’s grand opening is slated for June.

"The building will be a modern and efficient environment to provide top-quality policing services,” said Morrow.
