BISHOPVILLE, N.S. – The scene is somber at the site of a hobby farm that lost four pigs and a duck to a barn fire Friday.

“It was quickly knocked down, probably knocked down and contained within 15 minutes,” said Paul Maynard, a deputy chief with the Hantsport Fire Department.

“The livestock, unfortunately, did perish in the fire.”

Firefighters were dispatched to the working barn fire on Fuller Road in Bishopville, a community bordering Hants and Kings counties, ay about 10 a.m. The barn, measuring approximately 16 by 20 feet, was engulfed when crews arrived.

“The cause is accidental and electrical in nature,” said Maynard.

The building, he added, is insured.

“It was sort of a hobby farm more or less, not a commercial operation.”

Fire departments from Windsor, Brooklyn and Wolfville assisted at the scene, offering crews and tankers to help with the response.
