NEW MINAS, NS - Construction of the future RCMP Kings District Office and New Minas Detachment is progressing with interior wall framing almost completed and rough-ins for mechanical and electrical systems now underway.

After installing the roof and floors in the Commercial Street building in June and early July, construction crews have been working to finish framing the interior walls and roughing them in for mechanical and electrical systems. Work on exterior walls and windows will soon begin.

“With the framing nearly complete, you can appreciate the overall size and look of the new building,” said S/Sgt. Paul Coughlin, Acting Officer in Charge of Kings District RCMP. “You can really start to visualize where the different units will go.”

The new building will bring together administrative units for the Kings District RCMP and operational units for 73 full-time employees. This includes the Southwest Nova District Policing Officer, New Minas Detachment members, the Major Crimes Unit, Traffic Services, the General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services. Bringing the units together under one roof will promote efficient collaboration and improve operations.
