BEACONSFIELD, N.S. — A woman and 12-year-old girl are in the process of starting anew after a recent house fire destroyed their home.
The blaze was reported to the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department around 6:30 a.m. Feb. 1, said fire chief Randy Sheridan.
“It was fully involved with fire showing on all floors and through the roof,” he recalled, thinking back to the state of the scene upon arrival.
“Any time you get there and it’s fully involved it’s pretty much just an exterior attack, so it’s a little more difficult.”
The occupants were not home when the fire broke out, Sheridan said.
“The people had left a little earlier that morning.”
There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but the single-family dwelling was rendered a complete loss. The extent of the damage made it too dangerous for the fire marshal to enter what remained of the structure in order to further the investigation, Sheridan said.
“The cause was not determined.”
Fire departments from Annapolis and Lawrencetown offered mutual aid.
Representatives of the Canadian Red Cross met with the displaced woman and girl Feb. 2 to assist with the purchase of emergency provisions, such as winter clothing and groceries.
A media release issued by the Red Cross indicates that the pair has already found rental accommodations in the area.
