HANTSPORT, N.S. — Since January, visitors to Hantsport would have been hard pressed to miss the white and red ‘Save Our Aboiteau’ signs that dotted the entrance to the community.
The lawn signs, which were installed prior to a community protest, helped draw attention to the failed aboiteau at the Halfway River.
However, just one sign remains — a larger sized one that residents say likely couldn’t be removed.
“Someone has taken all our ‘Save Our Aboiteau’ signs. It was not anybody with the group,” said Bill Preston, a member of the Hantsport Aboiteau Action Group that has been actively lobbying for the site to be fixed.
“Someone has taken them. It’s a theft and we want them brought back.”
The signs were removed near the end of March.
As work is now underway at the aboiteau, Preston said the group is checking to see if the provincial government removed the signage. If they didn’t, and the thief — or thieves — don’t return the signs, Preston says they’ll be contacting the RCMP.
“We are giving whomever... a chance to (bring them back),” he said.
“If anyone from the public saw anyone moving the signs at all, we would like to have them contact us,” Preston said, indicating they can contact Robbie Zwicker, Hantsport’s councillor, with tips.

As of April 10, the RCMP confirmed, via email, that the organization has not been alerted to the thefts.
“I can confirm that no report has been made and is on file within our database about the theft,” said Sgt. Michael Balmaceda, of the Windsor RCMP.
