WINDSOR, N.S. — A cool breeze passed over Victoria Park as the annual Remembrance Day ceremony got underway Nov. 11.

Thousands of residents lined the park and nearby streets to pay their respects to those who served and those who continue to serve to protect Canadian values and freedom.

Paula Greene, the master of ceremonies, provided an overview to those gathered, explaining the importance of remembering and why the Last Post, Lament, and Reveille are performed.

In a commemorative service, the Last Post signifies death, representing the duty of the dead is over and they can rest in peace. It is commonly played at funeral and memorial services.

Bagpipes play the Lament, which commemorates the fallen. It is a traditional Scottish lament.

In a commemorative service, the Reveille signifies the resurrection of the spirit of the fallen.
