BRIDGETOWN, NS - It was a steady week responding to calls for Annapolis County RCMP members. Police kept busy throughout the county responding to assaults, break and enters, mischiefs, liquor control act violations, and traffic collisions.
July 8, 2018
RCMP responded to several mischief calls. In Middleton, an unknown male was banging on doors in the apartment building demanding to be let in. Police made a patrol but the male was gone upon arrival.
Police responded to a similar complaint in Northfield that same evening, where the caller stated that someone was outside the trailer, banging on it and running away.
On July 10 in Middleton, the RCMP responded to another mischief call where someone threw a water bottle at caller's house . Patrols were made to all calls but suspects were gone upon arrival.
A Search warrant was executed in West Dalhousie. Police located a marijuana grow and seized some methamphetamine .
July 9, 2018
Burnouts and squealing tires were being reported on Church Street in Bridgetown. Patrols were made and located some of the vehicles. Multiple warnings and tickets for Operating Motor Vehicle on Highway in Race, in Contest, while Performing a Stunt, were issued.
Along with the $2,422 fine, these drivers will receive a seven-day license suspension.
On July 10 the RCMP responded again to a complaint of people doing burn outs and squealing tires but upon arrival, all vehicles were gone.
In Granville Ferry, suspects were caught on video stealing a $800 table saw. Police were able to locate the suspects and return the saw to the owner.
A traffic collision happened on Highway 1 and the parking lot by Big Scoop in Middleton. All parties were uninjured but several thousand dollars of damage was done to both vehicles.
July 12, 2018
A kayak was found floating in the bay at Phinney Cove. RCMP responded with Bridgetown Fire, EHS, and Annapolis Royal Water Rescue. A search and rescue helicopter was used as well. After several hours, the search was called off and no one has reported a kayak or anyone missing.
July 13, 2018
Three adults were apprehended on the scene at a break and enter into a residence in Spa Springs on Friday the 13th. Numerous charges are pending and the two males and one female will be appearing in court in August.
In Hillsburn, reports of gun shots sent RCMP out to Hillsburn Road. After patrols and canvassing homeowners in the area, the police were able to determine where the gun shots came from. A raccoon decided to make his dinner from a resident's cherry tree. The resident did not like this so fired some shots towards the raccoon. The resident was warned he can't do this and the dangers of firing a gun so close to other homes.
A resident of Cornwallis called to report her vehicle being vandalized. Sometime over night, someone took what she believes to be a bat and smashed her windshield and mirrors. The suspect then went into the vehicle and tore off her rear view mirrors. Investigation is ongoing.
In Nictaux there was a very lucky deer on Friday the 13th! Unfortunately, the owner of the vehicle who swerved so he wouldn't hit the deer was not so lucky. The vehicle ended up in the ditch and due to the amount of damage, it had to be towed. The driver was uninjured.
Vandalism at Annapolis East Elementary School was reported. Suspects spray painted vulgarities and hate towards the police, on windows, entrance and skate park. Video surveillance captured suspects and investigation is still ongoing.
July 14, 2018
In Cornwallis, a complainant reported his vehicle was stolen over night. He admitted to leaving the windows down and keys on the dash. He later located his vehicle but found the tires damaged. Police advised that the best place for his keys was probably not on the dash.
An unknown male on an ATV went to a property in Meadowvale and stole an air compressor, 110-foot cord, and a five-gallon plastic can from a shed. The investigation is ongoing.
Police responded to a complaint of suspicious youths on a local school property. The complainant was worried the youths would vandalize the school. Police found out the real purpose why the youths were hanging there -- for the free wireless internet!
Tip of the Week - With the recent warm weather, the RCMP is reminding people to leave their pets home rather than in the vehicle. A ticket for $697.50 for leaving animal in unattended motor vehicle, could be issued.
