GREENWOOD, NS - It’s an exercise aimed at improving the capabilities of the Canadian Armed Forces and civilian agencies to work together in safeguarding the public.

Royal Canadian Air Force members from 14 Wing Greenwood are conducting a search and rescue exercise in and around the Greenwood, Aldershot, Granville and Bay of Fundy areas from Oct. 1 to 5.

LOST FAMILY MEMBERS RESCUED DURING TRAINING IN SOUTH ALTON

The exercise involves personnel and equipment from 413 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Civil Air Search and Rescue. It is based primarily out of the Greenwood airport.

The training is concentrated in the Valley area and Bay of Fundy daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., resulting in increased air traffic for the duration of the exercise.

Residents can expect to see search and rescue technicians parachuting out of aircraft and dropping equipment into designated areas of Camp Aldershot, Granville Ranges, the 14 Wing aerodrome and over Bay of Fundy waters. The exercise also involves the use of Canadian Coast Guard boats and pyrotechnics.

The training exercise is being conducted in a disciplined, professional manner with paramount importance being placed on the safety of the public and exercise participants.
