A vehicle fire reported around 5 a.m. Monday swiftly spread to a nearby warehouse located at the corner of Prospect Road and Highway 12 in North Alton.

Chief Brian Desloges of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters arrived on scene to find the vehicle and a wall of the warehouse engulfed in flames.

“It’s one of their heating and plumbing trucks that was fully involved with fire but, because the truck was parked so close to the building, it set the building on fire in the outside wall and it extended up into the attic space,” said Desloges.

“Right now, the building is fully intact. What burnt did not go any further than what we saw when we first arrived. There is a good, heavy char on the outside of the wall but everything else is internal.”

Firefighters searched extensively for potential areas of fire extension, and the fire marshal’s office was contacted to assist with the investigation.

The building is insured, Desloges said.

Fire departments from Waterville, New Minas, Greenwich, Port Williams and Wolfville offered mutual aid assistance.
