NEW MINAS, N.S. — Thunderstorms can be bittersweet.

After days of hot, sticky weather, a thunderstorm can wring all the humidity out of the air, but they’re also capable of creating destruction.

While the rest of us were somewhat relieved of the heat by the storm on the afternoon of July 17, one resident on Olympic Avenue in New Minas wasn’t so lucky.

In the late afternoon, the New Minas Fire Department responded to a call about a trailer being struck by lightning. Several residents reported their power blinking out during the storm, but this was different.

New Minas Fire Chief James Redmond said that, fortunately, the strike was not severe.

“Lighting put a surge on the powerline, which arched inside the trailer from the plug in the hallway. There was very minimal damage done and nobody was injured,” Redmond details.

With more thunderstorms potentially on the way, area residents are no doubt hopeful that lighting doesn't strike the same place twice.
