In their second year, the team of Anna Joy Aylward Burgess, Margaret Hopkins and Lydia Wilks placed 12 out of 18 in a very tight field.
The team registered for RoboHit, which is the main event, the Unknown Mission Challenge and Bottle Sumo.
On the first 12-hour day of competition, the team had to plan, build and program their robot to pick up certain bottles with careful timing. They tied for fourth place in that event.
The RobotHit portion was much like the Acadia University regional game, said coach Neil Burgess, where the robot had to remove objects and hit a ball over a fence.
Due to a lack of space in the venue, Burgess said, coaches were placed in a separate building to watch the robot activity on a screen.
A number of sponsors helped the team get to the world championships, including Mud Creek Rotary. This summer the trio will be giving back, Burgess noted, at the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) workshop at Acadia University.
