HANTSPORT, N.S. — HANTSPORT — Police have arrested two people in relation to the theft of four handguns that were stolen from a home in Hantsport on Feb. 17.

According to a press release, the RCMP was notified by Halifax Regional Police (HRP) on Feb. 18 that two suspects in the theft were located in a home on Young Street in Halifax.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke, media relations officer with the RCMP, said the two police organizations worked together to locate the suspects.

Given the nature of the call, the HRP officers requested assistance from the HRP Emergency Response Team, an HRP K-9 team, and a negotiator.

A 36-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested for the theft when they left the home.

Both individuals were released from custody later that day.

Clarke said that the victim and the suspects known to each other.

A warrant was obtained to search the home, however, the guns have not yet been found.

“The guns and the box they were stored in was taken,” Clarke said.

The man was released without charges and the woman is scheduled to attend Windsor provincial court on April 23, on charges of theft under $5,000, and a number of firearms-related offences.

The investigation is ongoing.
