HEBRON, N.S. — A collision on Highway 101, at Exit 34, on Feb. 18 has resulted in a fatality.

The crash occurred when an eastbound car crossed the centre line of Highway 101 and struck a tractor trailer that had been parked on the side of the highway near Exit 34 westbound, at 4:31 p.m.

A 20-year-old woman who was in the rear seat died at the scene. A 19-year-old woman who was also in the rear seat sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Halifax via LifeFlight.

The 29-year-old male driver and the 21-year-old male front-seat passenger were injured and were transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was not in the truck at the time and was not injured.

An RCMP collision analyst was called to examine the scene, resulting in the closure of Highway 101 for several hours. No further information is being released about those involved in the collision pending notification of next of kin. Highway 101 re-opened at 12:15 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.

“Our thoughts are with the families of those involved at this difficult time,” said Public Information Officer Cpl. Jennifer Clarke on behalf of the RCMP.
