Arley Bigelow — Kentville

Arley Isabel Bigelow - 83, of Kentville, formerly of Blomidon, Kings County, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Pereau, she was a daughter of the late James and Edna (Greene) MacBride. She and her husband, Bruce Dwight “Skip” owned and operated the Lucky Dollar Grocery Store, Canning. She had been a member of the Blomidon Women’s Institute, the Pereau Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary, the Canning Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. She also taught Sunday school for many years. Arley enjoyed puzzles, word challenges, painting, sewing and her iPad. She was the maker of tasty meals and treats in her kitchen, especially coconut cream pie. Over the years many cats and dogs held a special place in her heart. Snowmobiling, playing darts, fitness classes, walking along the beach and trails of the Blomidon Provincial Park were a few of her favourite activities. Feeding the birds gave her great joy, especially hummingbirds. She loved flowers and socializing several times a week with her friends at the local coffee shops. Fun and funny went hand in hand when Arley was involved. Loved by all that knew her, tears of sadness will be shed but also tears of laughter from the wonderful memories that she has left behind for us to share. Arley is survived by a daughter, Nancy (David) Acker, Kentville; two sons, Allison “Doc”, New Minas; Gerald “Jerry” (Julie), Ear Falls, Ontario; two sisters, Emeline Porter, New Minas; Edna Jean “Jeannie” (Arthur) Woolaver, Blomidon; a brother, Wesley, Pereau; two sisters-in-law, Connie and Eunice “Ducky”; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Bruce Dwight “Skip”; brothers, Malcolm and Elmer; a sister, Emily (18 months), sisters-in-law, Roberta, Ona and Valarie; brothers-in-law, Randall, Mike, Sam and Burdette. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a celebration of her life, followed by a reception, was held beginning at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017. Reverend Mark Parent officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in the Habitant Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Pereau Baptist Church.
