Beatrice Bailey — Truro

Bailey, Beatrice S., 93 - Truro. The family of Beatrice S. Bailey is saddened to announce her passing on December 18, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Born on December 30, 1924 to the late Howard and Beatrice (Dimock) Smiley in Newport, N.S. She graduated from Windsor Academy in 1943 and taught school for three years in rural schools in Nova Scotia and was active in farm organizations. Beatrice was one of the first female directors of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture. She was a pioneer in the Nova Scotia Folk School Movement and active in Farm Forum. She married Irving Bailey in 1964 and lived her life in West Hartford, Connecticut. Beatrice worked at Aetna Life & Casualty as a Contract Analyst for twenty years and part time at Travelers Insurance Company for six years. After her husband’s death in 1993, she returned to Nova Scotia and settled in Truro in 1995. She was a member of First United Church, Truro. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Beatrice is survived by her step-daughter, Beverly Hastings, South Portland; step grand daughters, Lisa Hastings, Kimberly (Douglas) Langan, Susan (Richard) Downs; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters, Ethel Parker and Lillian Mumford; brothers, John, Walter, Irving and Eric. Graveside service to be held in Spring 2019 in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
