Charles Pickford — Halifax

Charles Vincent Pickford, a resident of Grand Pre, passed away on Friday January 26 at Halifax infirmary at the age of 70. Born in Wolfville he was the son of the late George C and Margaret Jean (McFadden) Pickford. After graduating from high school, he attended Acadia University. He worked in Halifax at the Lord Nelson and Nova Scotian Hotels as night auditor. Charles loved being at sea and worked for many years for US Gypsum Company as well as on fuel tankers in Europe. Charles spend one summer on the Bluenose as a crew member; as well on a yacht that sailed across the Atlantic. He lived several years in Halifax, employed as a care taker of an apartment complex for the Levethall family. He impressed people with his vast knowledge and ability to speak many languages as well as his creative mind. He followed a path of his own choice, doing everything in his own way and digression. Charles’ main love was for his cats. Charles survived by his Brother George (Anna), nieces and nephew Emily, Colin, and Heather. Burial will be at St John’s Cemetery, Halifax at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of choice. The family will be hosting an informal reception at Hortonville Community Hall on Feb 10 at 2-4pm. He had a huge presence in life and will be missed by all who knew him.
