Rudolph John "Rudy" Burghardt

Rudolph John "Rudy" Burghardt
BURGHARDT, Rudolph John 'Rudy' Canaan December 9, 1938 - October 7, 2019 A humble country farmer has peacefully passed away. Born at home in Canaan, Kings County, he was a son of Edward and Maria (Schilling) Burghardt. Rudy was a hard worker, proud of his German-Swiss heritage and his farm and home in Canaan. He had a wonderful sense of humour which put everyone at ease within moments of meeting him. He was charming, kind, and loved his family (quietly, but deeply). He was a man of great faith, generous, and served in his church and community. He was always open to learning new things, a graduate of the little one room school house in Canaan, he had an abundance of knowledge within him and he was thankful for everyday that God gave him. A dedicated dairy farmer for over 50 years, Rudy was passionate about his Holsteins and a shareholder of Cornwallis Dairy Limited. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Milk Producers Association, Baxter’s Milk Producers Association, and Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia. He started a small trucking company in 1973 picking up milk for local farmers, which still operates today as Rudy Burghardt & Sons. He also transported water, juice, and various aggregates and was a long-time member of the Kings County Truckers Association. He loved Massey Ferguson tractors and was the co-founder of Kings Equipment. He enjoyed his friends, his community, and his family. He was a devoted husband and a loving Dad and a cherished Opa. Rudy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Bennett); sons, Adrian, Canaan, his children, Savannah and Cody; Darren (Corrine), Victoria, B.C., their children, Kyle, Cohen, and Bennett; Hans (Threna), Canaan, their children Kohl and Broc; daughter, Erika (Tyler) Bowley, Calgary, A.B., their children, Ella and Shaya; sisters, Cecilia Hass, Winnipeg, M.B., her children and Terry (Peter) Kirkham, Kingston, O.N.; many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
