MIDDLETON, N.S. — The Avon View Avalanche’s girls’ hockey team lost a pair of exceptionally tough 2-1 hockey games to the Tantramar High School team, with the final loss coming in the championship game of the annual Middleton High School Girls Hockey Tournament Nov. 3-4.

Avon View’s first loss to Tantramar came in the opening game of the tournament. Amy Lloy scored the Avalanche’s only goal in the tourney’s opening game, earning her player of the game honours.

In the championship game, Zoey Rafuse scored the lone Avalanche marker while Lily Beamish, from the Windsor school, was named player of the game.

The Avalanche won all other tournament games. They defeated West Kings 3-2 on goals by Lloy, Rafuse and Makayla Kelvey. Rafuse was named player of the game.

This game was followed by a 5-0 thumping of Horton, with Rafuse netting a pair, and singles going to Yumi Miyano, Brea Hazel and Brittany Poole. Kelvey was named MVP of the game.

With a 2-1 record, it earned the Avalanche a semi-final berth against West Kings, a game that the Avalanche won 6-2. Julia Fisher and Brittany Poole each recorded hat-tricks in the semi-final victory.

“I was truly pleased with the team effort exemplified by all the girls and their hard work paid off,” said head coach Rob Davies after the tournament.

The week of Nov. 13 has the team travelling to Ottawa to compete in the 13th Annual Capital High School Tournament.
