WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axewomen rode a strong start to a 73-70 victory over the UPEI Panthers Friday in Atlantic University Sport basketball action.
The host Axewomen held quarter leads of 17-7, 33-27 and 50-49.
Shalyn Field had 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Axewomen while Ellen Hatt scored 16 points and Lanae Adams chipped in 13.
Jenna Mae Ellsworth had a game-high 37 points for the Panthers while Jane McLaughlin added 12 points.
UPEI was 0-for-14 behind the three-point arc while Acadia hit 45 per cent (9-for-20) of its attempts.
Acadia improved to 3-0 while UPEI is 2-1. The teams play again Saturday at 6 p.m.
