Kentville peewees improve to 7-1 with July 1 win over Hammonds Plains

KENTVILLE - The Kentville peewee AAA Wildcats improved to 7-1 on the season, good for a virtual tie for first in the Bluenose League standings, with a 9-4 win over Hammonds Plains July 1 in Kentville.

Carson Gorman earned the win with six-innings-plus of solid pitching, finishing with nine strikeouts. Jayden Oickle was called upon to get the final two outs when Gorman reached his pitch count limit.

Offensively, Seth Routledge led the way with three hits, while Gorman helped his own cause with a pair of hits. Jarrett Phinney, Ethan MacLellan, Dawson Oldham, C.J. Martin, Jayden Oickle, Jacob Corbin and Jaxson Allen had one hit each.

The win was the fifth in a row for the Wildcats. Since suffering their only regular season loss, 10-6 to Tri-County June 14, Kentville defeated Tri-County 10-0 and 14-4, and Halifax 6-5 and 16-6.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play a doubleheader against Dartmouth Arrows July 4 at 1 and 3:30 p.m. as part of Baseball Day in Kentville.

The games represent a first-place showdown, as the Arrows will enter play with an 8-2 league record to Kentville’s 7-1.  

Baseball Day in Kentville features all of the Kentville teams, from mosquito up to and including senior, in action on the same day on their respective home fields.
