The Charros finished five games ahead of the Rockies in the regular season standings but during the championship final, the Rockies defeated them 2-1 to take home the championship title.
The Sept. 16 final saw the Rockies capture their second consecutive league championship.
Justin Schofield, from Kings County, was masterful on the mound as he’s one of the top fast pitch hurlers in the world.
During the final, he struck out nine while allowing a single base hit.
The Rockies scored the game’s first run in their half of the opening inning on singles by Trent MacKeil and Patty Benedict and an error by the Charros right fielder. It stayed 1-0 for the Rockies until the teams exchanged a pair of runs in the sixth inning with MacKeil tripling and scoring on a fielder’s choice by Aaron Harvey.
The tournament was a double loss elimination tournament but losses never entered into the conversation on the Rockies bench as they finished 4-0.
In order to advance to the final, the Rockies defeated the Charros 9-3.
Schofield struck-out 13 while allowing the Charros their only three runs in the fourth inning on a three-run homer by Joel Isenor.
The Rockies scored six of their points on home runs by Benedict. Harvey, who hit .400 during the regular season, and MacKeil.
In earlier tournament action, the Rockies downed the Halifax Pepperjacks 6-2.
During this game, Schofield struck-out 16 while giving up five hits.
The Rockies led 3-1 after two innings and 6-1 after three.
The Rockies’ bout with the Nova Scotia Canada Games team was called after five innings, with the Rockies having an 8-0 lead.
Schofield went the distance, striking out 12 of the 15 batters he faced and not allowing a single hit.
The Rockies went up 5-0 in the first on a grand slam home run off the bat of Benedict and added three more in the second on three singles and a double.
