MIDDLETON, N.S. — ADRIAN JOHNSTONE
Firefighters from Canada and the United States came to compete at the Firefit Championships at the Nova Scotia Community College Annapolis Campus in Middleton.
Hosted by the Middleton Fire Department, participants from Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Maine competed in the individual competitions on Aug. 3.
These included carrying fire hose up six flights of stairs, dropping it into a bucket and pulling up more hose with a rope. Firefighters then go back down and hammer a metal box.
When completed, firefighters carry a charged line to a target and hit it until it’s knocked down. They then drag a dummy to the finish line, while wearing breathing apparatus and full turnout gear. The team competitions took place Aug. 4.
