AMHERST, N.S. - The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers acquired Casey Fox to score goals just like he did Saturday night.
The 20-year-old forward took a pass from linemate Alex Lafreniere with a 1:08 and fired a wrist shot by Valley Wildcats’ goalie Liam MacDonald to give the Ramblers a 4-3 win in Maritime Junior Hockey League action at the Amherst Stadium.
Lafreniere broke up a Wildcats’ break-out and then got a pass from Aidan McFarland before shoveling the puck to a wide open Fox who wasted no time in getting the puck on goal.
The Wildcats pressed in the final minute coming close with 10 seconds to go in the game when a shot went just wide of the Ramblers net. Amherst took the puck down the ice and Will Lafford attempted to set up Matt Green as time expired.
Riley Cunningham and Zach Falck gave the Wildcats a two-goal first period lead before Stephen Fox put Amherst on the board 3:40 into the second period, scoring off a faceoff with Max Boudreau getting the assist.
Matt Green scored less than three minutes later with Will Lafford and Cole Waugh adding assists as the Ramblers had sustained pressure on the Wildcats.
Colton McKenna scored 8:10 into the final period when he broke in two-on-one and beat MacDonald with a rocket, but the Ramblers’ penalty problems led to Cunningham’s second goal of the game – this time on the power play with 5:21 to play.
Amherst took five consecutive penalties, including four in the third period, and seven overall in the game compared to just three for Valley.
Matt Williams faced 30 shots in the Ramblers net with Liam MacDonald facing 32.
Casey Fox was first star in the game, Ramblers’ defenceman Alex Whynter was second star and Riley Cunningham the third star.
The Rambers are in Truro on Friday night before coming home on Saturday to face the Pictou County Weeks Crushers at the Amherst Stadium at 7 p.m.
