"I couldn't believe it. I'm so excited. It's my third year with the team and we had a shot at it last year but lost to the same team," said Pellerin, who was named tournament MVP.
Her bookend goals and Josee Thibeau's stingy goaltending propelled Nova Scotia's Metro Boston Pizza to 4-0 gold medal game victory over the Moncton Rockets on Sunday in Charlottetown.
Kings County's Keisha Kane and Kira Memet and Digby County's Meadow Carman.
Pellerin's rebound goal off her own shot in the second period proved the winner, while her second score, a blue-line rush from the right side punctuated by a slap shot over Moncton's Noemie Hache's left shoulder, capped the Bedford-based squad's scoresheet and killed any comeback mojo Moncton might have conjured.
"(On the second goal) I didn't even know what happened. I know their goalie sometimes had trouble reading the puck so I took a slap shot and it worked out."
The 17-year-old Halifax native finished with seven goals and an assist in five games, while Thibeau didn't surrender a goal in 180 minutes of work. Metro went 5-0, including 4-0 in the round robin, to win the tourney.
After a scoreless first, Pellerin scored with just over three minutes remaining into the second frame for a 1-0 lead heading into the third.
Then five minutes into the third, Shannen Grandy's seeing-eye wrister into traffic snuck through for a 2-0 edge. A roughing penalty by Moncton's EmmaRae Murphy cost a third goal, this time by Jessica O'Malley, 80 seconds after Grandy scored. That was followed by Pellerin's second with 6:56 remaining.
Pellerin said the team wanted to secure the no-no for Thibeau.
"We had to get her the shutout. She hadn't given up a goal in the tournament. Coaches kept saying 'get the puck deep, get the puck deep.' "
Next up for Metro is the Esso Cup national championship April 17 to 23 in Weyburn, Sask.
