WOLFVILLE - Meghan MacLeod has had university on her mind since Grade 8.

The graduating Horton High basketball winger recently committed to play for Acadia University next season.

“I’ve been playing for a long time and… coming into high school I knew that I wanted to play at university,” said MacLeod, who was also on Dalhousie’s radar.

She credits Horton’s competitive, top-level basketball program with helping her continually progress in all aspects of the game. The team sees plenty of court time with a lot of practices, games and tournaments worked into their packed schedule.

“Being in the gym with such good players definitely helped a lot,” said MacLeod.

MacLeod went to the Canada Games in Winnipeg to represent Team Nova Scotia in the summer of 2017, and played at nationals in Regina in 2016. She’s travelled throughout Canada playing the sport she loves, and even logged some games in the United States.

In anticipation of her time with the Axewomen, MacLeod intends to focus on honing her offensive skills and stepping out of her comfort zone as a natural-born defender. This means building confidence, and training her mind to look for new ways to find the basket.

“I’m very excited, and definitely relieved,” she said.
