WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Acadia women’s basketball’s head coach Len Harvey is pleased to announce the commitment of three Nova Scotia high school senior student-athletes.
Abbie Fox and Hannah Fuller of the Horton High School Griffins and Olivia Moller of C.P. Allen High School will join the Axewomen in the fall of 2019.
“We're very excited to welcome all three of these young women to our program. We believe they're three of the top guards in Atlantic Canada in the 2019 class and were high priority recruits for us this year,” said Harvey.
“I'm really looking forward to coaching them here; all three are coachable, great students, and add different pieces to our team that we need. They've all represented our province and are significant contributors and leaders for their high schools at Horton and CPA - two of the top programs in Nova Scotia,” added Harvey.
Fox and Fuller, who are in a long line of premiere high school players from Horton over the last ten years, are both in their senior year with the Griffins.
Fox, who resides in Hantsport, N.S. was Horton’s 2017-18 Coaches Award recipient and the 2016-17 Dedication Award winner. During her time with the Horton Division 1 program, Fox captured one provincial championship in 2015-16 and in 2017-18 a bronze medal at last year’s provincial championship.
Fox was also a member of the Team Nova Scotia at the 2017 Canada Games team in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
“Abbie is a player I’ve watched develop over the last number of years. A tough, no maintenance personality, she has an extraordinarily high basketball IQ, and a very solid skillset. She’s always been a player who makes everyone around her better, which is a skill that often goes under the radar. She’s someone who is going to fit in at Acadia perfectly, and we’re excited to watch her continue her development here,” concluded Harvey.
From Kentville, N.S., Hannah Fuller is the second of two committed Horton High School student-athletes. Fuller’s relentless passion on the court stood out to Harvey.
“Hannah is an elite athlete with breakaway speed. She is a tough competitor, and has a real nose for the basket offensively, on top of being very disruptive defensively. Hannah has also established herself as a player who comes up big in big moments, and her sense of humour is a welcome addition to any locker room. We’ve been recruiting Fuller for some time now and are really glad she chose to stay and play for the school she’s grown up watching for so long,” said Harvey.
Fuller’s accolades include the 2017-18 Horton Griffins Coaches Award winner and numerous tournament all-star recognition awards, along with MVP awards at the Eastern Canadian Classic and Rick Cotter Classic tournaments.
C.P. Allen High School Cheetahs point guard Olivia Moller concludes the list of early committed recruits for the Axewomen.
From Bedford, N.S., Moller was named the Rookie of the Year in her first season with the Cheetahs in 2016-17 and last season was named the team’s most valuable player.
Moller has also been a member of the Halifax Thunder Selects program as a U14 and U15 team member. She has also been involved with Basketball Nova Scotia’s Team Nova Scotia for the past two summers.
“Liv is an elite level athlete and her speed and quickness are going to transfer very quickly to this level of play. She is a vocal leader who really brings positivity to any room she is in, and we’ll expect her to continue that right away here next season. She has proven to be a real gym rat through her developing years, and has a very solid foundation of skills that we’re excited to help her keep expanding on here. She is going to fit in perfectly at Acadia,” said Harvey.
Harvey noted that all three committed recruits fit the mold of the Axewomen program and have a great background in basketball.
“They've been well coached through their schools, clubs, and trainers, and have wonderful families who will fit right in with our existing group,” said Harvey.
“These three check all of the boxes in terms of what we're looking for here at Acadia, and I can't wait to have them on campus as a part of our university.”
