WINDSOR, N.S. — Hockey legends and enthusiasts alike will be bumping elbows in Windsor from Jan. 25-27, playing on the same ice surface where it’s said that Canada’s national sport began.

The Long Pond Hockey Heritage Classic has become one of Windsor’s marquee events and kicks off the year in a big way, especially for hockey fans.

Some of the biggest stars that will be on the ice include retired NHL stars Ron Duguay and Darren Langdon, formerly of the New York Rangers, Al Iafrate, formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chris Nilan and John LeClair, formerly of the Montreal Canadiens, John LeBlanc and Tom Fergus, formerly of the Vancouver Canucks, Dennis Maruk, formerly of the Minnesota North Stars, and Chris Kotsopoulos, formerly of the Detroit Red Wings.

Games start at Long Pond on Jan. 26, starting at 9 a.m. Teams of eight register and fundraise for the chance to get first pick of the legendary players.

The games are free for spectators to come out and watch and cheer on their favourite players.

It’s also likely that some of the players will be visiting businesses and sponsors throughout the weekend, so the chances of getting some photos and autographs with these stars are highly likely.

The Legends of Hockey Banquet, is also on Jan. 26 at the Ted Canavan Centre at King’s-Edgehill School, starting at 5 p.m. Tickets are $100 each, or $900 for a table of 10. Tickets are expected to sell out soon, so get them as quickly as you can.

The Legends of Hockey Breakfast is the following morning, Jan. 27, starting at 8:30 a.m. inside the KES dining hall. Adult entree is $25 or $15 for 12 and under.

Proceeds from the event support the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society and the Windsor Hockey Heritage Museum.
