WINDSOR, N.S. — Heading into play July 7, the Windsor Knights are sitting at the top of the Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League standings with nine wins and two losses for 29 points.

The Noel Road Jays are nipping at their heels with 20 points, having recorded six wins and two losses.

The Knights are set to play a doubleheader at home against the Sherose Island Schooners July 7, and then host the Noel Road Jays July 14. Game time is 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for both doubleheaders.

In earlier NSIBL action, the Knights took on the Truro Bearcats and won 8-0. Their first game was postponed.

In the 8-0 verdict on June 30, Joe Beaton had a two-run double, Paul Humphreys had a two-run single and Tyler Beach recorded an RBI double.

Adam Ferguson threw 4.1 innings for the Knights’ win, giving up three walks, and no runs.

Elliott Dickson-Green threw 2.2 innings of relief and struck-out two.

The week before, the Knights had an unsuccessful doubleheader with Sherose Island, losing their only games to date. The first game was a 3-2 loss, in which Tristan Horner scored an RBI double in the losing cause. Alex Sabean went the distance, taking the loss by giving up six hits and three runs. However, he did strike out nine players.

The second loss was 6-2 after the Schooners exploded for a four-run fifth inning. The teams were tied 2-2 after four innings.

Ryan Clarke took the loss for the Knights, giving up five runs while allowing three hits. Dave Swindall pitched about an inning of relief and also gave up three hits. The highlight of the game was when Beaton stole three bases for the Knights.
