WINDSOR, N.S. — The defending Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League champions, the Windsor Knights, are not slowing down in 2019.

Over the June 15-16 weekend in Windsor, the Knights extended their undefeated record to open the 2019 season to 8-0.

That weekend, they recorded a doubleheader sweep of Amherst and Truro.

In the June 15 make-up doubleheader, the Windsor Knights defeated the Amherst Athletics 4-1. Alex Sabean tossed a five-hitter to record the pitching win. Joe Beaton delivered two clutch singles.

In the second bout, the Knights eked out a 2-1 victory over the Athletics.

Austin Sabean doubled and Alex Patterson delivered a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

On June 16, the Windsor Knights blanked the Truro Bearcats 2-0. Jason Hanes, the Knights’ playing coach, tossed the win, striking out six, allowing three hits and a walk.

In the second game against the Bearcats, Windsor emerged victorious with a 6-2 verdict.

Dave Swindall pitched six innings for the win and Elliot Dickson-Green pitched an inning of relief. Swindall allowed only four hits in recording the win.

Beaton had an RBI single in a two-run third while Cory Whitney recorded two singles. Devan Dunfield, following a Knights’ double and a stolen base, hit a sacrifice fly RBI.

Hanes is pleased with his team’s play to date.

“Everyone one is working exceptionally hard; we are playing dynamite defence while receiving great pitching,” Hanes said.

He’d like to see the Knights become a bit more offensive as the season progresses.

The Knights have outscored the opposition 36-8 in going 8-0.

Upcoming Knights games

The Knights were scheduled to be on the road for four games, returning to play at Tremain Crescent in Windsor on July 7.

The Sunday home bout will be against Sherose Island.

The next weekend, on July 14, Windsor has a twin bill against the Noel Road Jays.

Both doubleheaders are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
