WINDSOR, N.S. — After losing seven consecutive games, the Windsor Royals appear to have turned the corner, winning three of their past four games.
Their two most recent victories came Nov. 24 and Nov. 25.
On Nov. 24, they outscored the last place Sackville Knights (4-9-0) 8-6 in Sackville as Keagan Levangie rifled home three goals and collected an assist, while Chad Woodill scored twice and added two more helpers and Brandon Sullivan collected five assists.
Justin MacLellan also netted a short-handed goal for the Royals. Kyle Armsworty and Alexander Carr were the other goal scorers.
On Nov. 25 in Windsor, the Royals played their best game of the season as they received superb goaltending from William Earley as he blocked 56 of 60 shots fired in his direction by the first place Spryfield Attack.
The Attack entered the game having lost only one of 14 games played to date this season.
The Royals won 9-4, despite falling behind 2-0 after the first period. The second and third periods were entirely different as the Royals scored five times in the second and four more in the third to salt the game away.
MacLellan scored twice and added two assists for the Royals while Armsworthy three times. Armsworthy has scored 11 goals so far this season. One of Armsworthy’s goals was a short-handed marker which gave the Royals a 7-4 lead in the third period.
Woodill scored twice while Sullivan and Levangie added single goals.
As for Earley, he made save after save, which only made the Attack more and more frustrated as the game progressed.
With the two wins, the Royals are now 7-11-0 for 14 points and have moved into a tie with the Cumberland Colts for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League.
They are scheduled to play two games this weekend (Dec. 1 and Dec. 2) with Spryfield and Cumberland.
The Royals will host East Hants in a home-and-home series Dec. 8-9. They travel to East Hants on Dec. 8 before hosting the Penguins at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Hants Exhibition Arena.
Their last home game of 2018 will be Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Sackville Knights.
