Jerry’s weather: January averaged slightly colder than normal, mean temperature minus 4.3°, 13th coldest since 1984. There was memorable cold at the beginning and end of the month, with prolonged and pronounced thawing in the middle. Temperatures ranged from a high of  9.9° on Jan. 14 to minus 21.8° on Jan. 2, which was one of coldest in past 31 years. Precipitation amounted to 110.4 mm - rainfall 67.1 mm and snowfall 43.3 cm.  Notable precipitation included two blizzards, with 12 cm on Jan. 3 and 17 cm on Jan. 22.

Scott’s Bay Wilderness Society held its first annual general meeting on Feb. 18 at the hall. Directors were returned by acclamation, including chair Jerry Huntley, vice-chair Blair Steele, secretary/treasurer Lindsay Steele and directors Terry Huntley, Fred Huntley, Phil Capstick and Donna Cail-Wallace. There are plans to work with the recreation committee to develop all-purpose trails.

The First Deny Halcyon committee will meet March 12, 7 p.m., at 5858 Hwy 358 Scott’s Bay. The group is open to anyone with long-term commitment to the monthly meetings. Snacks are welcome. Contact:

Scott's Bay Community Hall Association will hold its annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast March 15, 8-10 a.m. Menu: scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausages, toast and choice of coffee, tea or juice for $6, children under 12, $3. Proceeds will go towards hall upkeep.

The Canning Legion will hold karaoke with Bev March 21, 9 p.m. Admission $2. A dance with classic rock music by V-3, featuring Gary Sherman, Dave Dodge and Neil McNeil, is planned on March 22, 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Admission $5. A roast beef supper will be held March 26, 4:30-6 p.m. $12. Take outs are available, call the Legion after 4 p.m. daily at 582-7246.

Two Planks and a Passion Theatre annual Black and White, Hidden Treasure pirate night fundraiser, featuring food, entertainment and an art auction, will be held March 29, 6:30-11:30 p.m. Call 582-3073 or
