KENTVILLE - Kentville town council set aside civic business on March 14 to officially welcome Jyab and Khyriye Khatib and their children.

Jyab knew no English when he arrived in Kentville about six weeks ago, but he followed Mayor Dave Corkum with a short speech.

Then Mayor Corkum handed out flowers to Khyriye and toys to the three children, Waed, 8, Douaa, 5 and Mohamed, 4.

Three Syrian families have relocated to Kings County. The Khatibs are sponsored by local Rotarians and many of them turned out for the ceremony.
